Job Title:  Summer Recreation Director      Department: Township Recreation Board
Reports to: Township Recreation Board     Program Start Date: June 22, 2026 (runs for 7 weeks)
Position Start Date (prior to program start date): Negotiable due to candidate’s availability
Salary: Based on experience and availability (will be discussed prior to scheduling an interview)

Job Summary:  This is a summer position. The Director is responsible for maintaining the safety and organization of the program staff and drop in participants. The director will maintain a daily attendance of participants and produce a monthly report for the recreation board. The director must complete paperwork for any disciplinary action, or incident report, as well as accident reports for any injury. The Director will complete the necessary paperwork to ensure the reservation of transportation for field trips (i.e., buses etc.), permission slips for participants, and check requests for payments needed. Verify leader’s time worked and sign time sheets and turn them in to the Township office. Maintain all receipts for items purchased on behalf of the program. Attendance will vary from day to day as this is a drop-in program. The program is an outdoor program so it is weather permitting. The director will be responsible for calling off the program due to inclement weather. The Director will need to spend some time prior to the beginning date of the program (not limited to) developing a calendar of events, inventorying supplies, contacting leaders to get requited paperwork, shirt orders.
 
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Supervise young and junior leader’s tasks, job performance and interaction
  • Monitor, maintain and turn in young leader’s time cards
  • Work with leaders to develop a fair and balanced calendar assigning daily tasks
  • Oversee the daily tasks and activities
  • Provide a safe, positive and constructive atmosphere for all leaders and participants
  • Communicate effectively with parents of participants about field trips, activities, weather and behaviors
  • Conduct staff meetings with leaders to receive feedback and provide input
  • Receive CPR/Basic First Aid Training (provided) prior to program start date
 
Duties/Requirements: (the following requirements are not limited to)     
  • Report to the Township Board but will Work closely with the Township Clerk and/or Treasurer.
  • Attend the June, July and August recreation board meeting (second Monday each month) at 6p.m. and provide updates on the program.
  • Attend CPR/Basic First Aid Training (provided) prior to the start of the program
  • Prior to the end of May, (so the information can be distributed to schools before end of school year) will have developed a calendar of events, i.e.  field trips, transportation for those field trips, activities scheduled i.e., magician, ice cream truck etc.…

Duties are as follows but not limited to: helping to maintain the safety and organization of the program staff and drop in participants. The Assistant Director will help maintain a daily attendance of participants and produce a monthly report for the recreation board. The Assistant Director must complete paperwork for any disciplinary action, or incident report, as well as accident reports for any injury.
